MABUHAY PHILIPPINES FESTIVAL AUGUST 24 & 25 2024

The Philippine Independence Day Council ( PIDC), a non-profit, volunteer-led Filipino-Canadian cultural organization will host its annual signature event, the "Mabuhay Philippines Festival", presented by TD, on August 24 & 25, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM at the Nathan Phillips Square, City Hall Grounds, Queen Street East, Toronto.
With a theme: "Kabataan” (Our Youth), the thirty-year old association is building a bridge to its long-term future, which will showcase cultural heritage-focused activities during the 2-day celebration. The special guest star headliner will be the young musical artist, Inigo Pascual, featuring his latest hit: "Kahit Di Mo Ko Nakikita” and Lovi Poe, star of Batang Quiapo.
The weekend festivities will see Nathan Phillips Square packed with food trucks, Filipino food vendors, Filipino baked goods and snacks, Filipiniana clothing and wares, artwork murals and typical Filipino hospitality.
Philippine Airlines will be offering a special Mabuhay package rate for airfares from Toronto to Manila at their booth all weekend long.
The event will also highlight the 75th anniversary of the Philippines-Canada Bilateral Relationsand Friendship. Cabinet-level government officials from the Philippines Department of Tourism,launching their Be My Guest campaign, along with local dignitaries, and community leaders will be in attendance.
According to PIDC President, Tom Tan: “Toronto weekend festival-goers will get a flavour of both Filipino traditions, like the Mindanao Tapestry Collection of fashion icon Renee Salud, whose award-winning fashion models will walk the runway; and also new, edgy Filipino entertainment led by the fabulous Filipina drag queen Sofonda, who will perform the Marina Summers smash hit.”
On August 25, 2024, Sunday afternoon, the festival will have a SantaCruzan and the traditional parade to be featuring the colourful regions of the Philippines and Reynas and several professional, business, and social organizations.
For basketball fans, the Battle 416 returns with Battle for the Square, a college level tournament, featuring the George Brown College Huskies. Jollibee will be hanging out at Centre Court.
The festival events are organized and led by President Tom Tan, Exec. Vice President Karen Pascual Binaday, and Vice-Presidents Agnes Miranda, Ben Corpuz, and Jean Pardo.
