The longest-running festival of films from the Philippines and the Filipino diaspora, FACINE presents its strongest programming in years with diverse collection of new films


 

San Francisco, October 15, 2022 – FACINE29 presented by TFC, the 29th annual Filipino international cine festival & competition opens with Alberto Monteras II’s RESPETO, much-acclaimed rap-inflected youth drama, speaks of society’s ills, is the festival’s commemoration of the 50 years since Philippine martial law was declared.

The festival organized by the Filipino Arts & Cinema International or FACINE runs online on a streaming platform on November 5-7 which features ten full-length films; the Short Films competition also simultaneously screens twenty short films in the group’s youtube channel

We’re excited to partner with The Filipino Channel or TFC, who is this year's festival Kapamilya Title Sponsor.

The annual festival, the longest-running event in the US, has been the premier showcase of new works for the past 29 years. FACINE, a not-for-profit media arts organization based in San Francisco that aims to advance the interests of cinemas from the Philippines and the Filipino diaspora.

Nine more films complete the festival line-up which includes the other film on martial law, Kip Oebanda’s LIWAY; three Vivamax films of erotica, Lawrence Fajardo’s REROUTE, Roman Perez Jr’s TAYA [bet] and Jeffrey Hidalgo’s LAMPAS-LANGIT [beyond heaven]; two LGBT films, Dolly Dulu’s boys’ love light drama, THE BOY FORETOLD BY THE STARS and Jay Altarejos’s love in the pandemic, MEMORIES OF FORGETTING; Mikhail Red’s crime thriller, ARISAKA; the animated adult romance comedy, Avid Liongoren’s HAYOP KA! The Nimfa Dimaano Story; and a documentary, Pabelle Manikan’s DREAMING IN THE RED LIGHT.
