14 November 2021, Los Angeles – In line with the celebration of the 31st Library and Information Services Month this November, with the theme Libraries Building ROADS: Readers, Opportunities, Advocacies, Development, Sustainability, the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles is pleased to invite the Filipino-American community in its initiative to expand the Sentro Rizal-Los Angeles’ collection of Filipiniana library resources.
The library of the Consulate General was converted as its Sentro Rizal following Republic Act 10066 or the National Cultural Heritage Act of 2009. Officially launched on 19 June 2013, coinciding with the 152nd birth anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, the Consulate General’s Sentro Rizal houses the bust of Dr. Rizal, history books, trade and tourism brochures, and other cultural materials, mostly supplied by the Department of Foreign Affairs, National Commission for Culture and the Arts and its affiliated agencies, as well as donations from Fil-Am authors and organizations.
Community members who are looking for ways to properly dispose of, or repurpose, some of their unneeded titles and gently used hardcover books, paperbacks, fiction, and nonfiction collections may wish to participate in this initiative and enrich Sentro Rizal-LA’s collection through their book donation.
Books can be sent by post or be dropped off at the Sentro Rizal-LA, which is located at the following address:
