Life in the UK seems to be going back to normal as shoppers form long queues outside shopping centres; Outdoor dining areas are also full since indoor dining is still prohibited. Despite the seeming return to normal, citizens are still reminded to be extra careful in observing health protocols, especially since the Indian COVID-19 variant has already been detected in the country.
A comparative report from the House Commons shows that GDP was 24% lower in April 2020 (first lockdown) compared to April of the current year. Amid mass inoculation and easing of lockdown restrictions, economists are likely projecting a more stable second quarter for the UK, provided that the country can continue on its road to recovery. The UK targets a complete return to normal by June 2021.
As of April 25th, a total of 33.7 million people in the UK have already been vaccinated with the first dose, with a total number of 12.6 million fully vaccinated individuals.
